Brian began riding motorcycles at 5 Years old aboard a 50cc Techomoto mini road racer. He then moved to an Italjet automatic. Jumping over a door and straw bale was excellent practice for a budding schoolboy scrambler in the 70’s.

In 1981 Brian started Motocross racing at Tinker Hill on a CR80. He enjoyed racing at the Civic Week grass tracks like Scarva and Crumlin. Having been a consistent Schoolboy racer Brian decided to move into the adult ranks in 1987. This decision proved good when he won his first race at the Temple grass track.

Mixing racing and studying for his 'A levels', Brian became the 1989 Grade 'C' Ulster Grass Track Champion. His brother, Alan, and cousin, Brian Reid, also won Ulster Championships that year making the prize giving a real family affair. Brian built on his success and graduated from the Grade 'C' to the Grade 'A' division.

In 1994, Brian moved to short circuit racing. Brian and Alan were sharing a 125cc Honda with an agreement that Brian would ride the first half of the season. Half way through the clubman’s championship Brian was lying in 2nd place but kept his agreement and gave the bike to Alan. This was Brian’s final competitive outing.

Brian achieved a First Class Honours Degree and PhD in Engineering at the University of Ulster. Now Brian has moved  his attentions to Trials riding, spending weekends having fun on his 290 Sherco.
