Colin began racing in 2001 on board a KX65 in the MCCNI youth chacolin_kxmpionships. Having shown good speed, Colin moved the MRA cadet series for 2003. Despite having missed a round, Colin dominated the the series lifting the Ulster championship title along the way.

With his first championship under his belt Colin moved up to the Junior 65cc Championship for 2004. On a new KTM 65 Colin was once again at the front in an early season race at Desertmartin. In the third race of the day Colin had a major accident at the ominous "step up" section of the course. He suffered major damage to his cruciate ligament. The injury was potentially career ending.

Having undergone several major operations, Colin made a return to racing on a CR85 Honda for the 2005 season. Still struggling with his knee, he showed good speed consistently running in the top 10. Colin was back to winning form at the North West 200 Grass Track. Colin's win coincided with the 40th Anniversary of his Granda's victory in the 350cc race at NW200.

2006 saw Colin retiring from Motocross to concentrate on playing Rugby for Banbridge Academy and Dromore juniors. With his trademark determination Colin will certainly tranfer his success from 2 wheels to the Rugby pitch.

In a dramatic U-turn Colin made a racing return mid-way through 2007. Aboard a new CRF150R Colin contested several rounds of the Ulster and Irish championships with some encouraging results. Later, 13 year old Colin moved on to a new YZ125 Yamaha. Colin was instantly at home on the bigger bike. Victory was soon to follow when he won 2 races at the Holeshot motocross Barley stubble championship held at Moira. In his only appearance in the championship, due to Rugby commitments, Colin became the only racer to take an overall win ahead of the Champion Steven Arnott.
