Racing Friends

Ian_Ray

Over the many years that the McGregor family have been involved in racing motorcycles they have made some very good friends (and rivals).

Ian had made many friends during his racing year including; Len Ireland, Jimmy Courtney, The Crawford brothers, Jimmy Jones, Tommy Holmes, Eddie Farmer, Ken Crosset, Robert Ewing, Tom Herron, Brian Steenson, Abe Alexander and Raymond McCullough to name a few.

As well as being a great racer Ian is also an accomplished tuner and mechanic. He has used his understanding of how to fine tune a bikes performance to help quite a few local racers. Some of these riders have gone on to have success at World, British, Irish and Ulster championship level. At local youth motocross meeting Ian is always on hand to give advice to the next generation of racing stars.

Raymond McCullough

Raymond is arguably Irelands best ever road racer. Ian and Raymond grew up, went to school and began racing together. They live less than 1 mile apart and remain the best of friends to this day. Like Ian, Raymond also puts a lot back into the sport of motorcycle racing.

David Tougher

David has been a successful Motocrosser and Supermoto racing achieving numerous British, Ulster and Irish championships. The Tougher and McGregor families have been good friends for many years. Now retired from racing David runs his own tyre business.

John Meara

John is the current Irish 85cc SW Motocross Champion. Since Colin's retirement Ian has helped the Meara family. John is very determined and works hard to become a successful racer.

Jason Meara

Having won the Ulster 50cc Auto Championship in 2005, Jason followed up his success by winning the Cadet Ulster Championship in 2006. For 2007 Jason moves up to the Junior category in 65cc class and must start as a favourite to bring home a title.

Cailum Meara

Cailum and Aaron started racing together in the Holeshot Barley Stubble Championship. With some good results Cailum finished in 4th overall. For 2007 both he and Aaron will contest the Ulster and Irish Championships. Rivals on the track the two boys are great friends off it.

Ian McCallister

A good friend of Brian and Alan, Ian raced both motocross and Short circuits. A late start in Short Circuits, Ian was a front running in 600cc class at both clubmans and National level. In 2005 Ian hung up his leathers to concentrate on his new car sales business - Automoto.

Millars

Graeme and Callum Millar are good friends of Alan and Aaron. Graeme was a Motocross late starter but gets more enjoyment than most. A friendly face at the races Graeme is always ready to lend a helping hand. Unlike his Dad, Callum has started early, he is due to begin racing in July.

Jacob Dickson

JD

Jacob is the son of a Downhill Mountain bike champion, a very stylish racer he races in the 65cc Junior class. Aaron and Jacob are good friends and spend hours on their bicycles practicing for motocross races. For 2007 Jacob has obtained sponsorship from local company Potato Bred.

Others

Friendships formed at the race track seem to be long lasting. Over the years Brian and Alan gained many friendships which last to this day. Jonny McKnight, Alfie McClelland and Brian Halliday to name a few. A day at the races was usually followed by a night at the Disco, talking about how fast we all thought we were!

Motorcycle racing does have a down side, inevitably there have been too many friends taken by the sport they love.
